Elizabeth Bordowitz
Executive Director
Beth Bordowitz is the Executive Director of the Maine Retirement Savings Board. She has previously served as the Vice President, Legal and Administration for the Forman S. Acton Educational Foundation from its inception in 2014 through 2018. She is a certified mediator on the Maine Courts family matters roster. Beth served as a Community Development Volunteer with the Peace Corps in North Macedonia from 2018 to 2020. Beth served as the CEO of the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) for 7 years after serving as General Counsel to FAME. While at FAME, Beth was instrumental in the development and implementation of numerous programs, including the State of Maine’s venture capital fund and the state’s College Savings Program, the NextGen College Investing Plan. Beth currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the Maine Health Access Foundation. She has served and held leadership roles on numerous nonprofit and governmental boards of directors including the Portland Public Library, 2009 – 2018, Alfond Scholarship Foundation, Maine Development Foundation, Portland Zoning Board of Appeals, Family Crisis Shelter. A New Jersey native, Beth earned a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers College, a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Eagleton Institute of Politics of Rutgers University and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers School of Law-Camden.
Ariel Carron
Program & Communications Manager
Ariel Carron is the Program & Communications Manager for MERIT. She is a seasoned marketing and communications professional with over a decade of experience. Her expertise spans industries such as healthcare, finance, retail, and non-profits. She enjoys channeling creativity into new projects, leading impactful initiatives, and working collaboratively across teams.
At MERIT, Ariel leads efforts to raise awareness of Maine’s state-facilitated retirement savings program. She oversees strategic communication initiatives, manages MERIT’s digital presence, and crafts campaigns to enhance engagement among employers and employees. Additionally, she supports program administration, policy development, and stakeholder relationships, ensuring MERIT fulfills its mission of addressing the retirement savings gap in Maine.
Ariel holds an M.A. in Communication from Suffolk University and a B.A. in English from the University of Maine. As a Maine native, she has a profound understanding of local and regional audiences. Her dedication to business and community is rooted in her upbringing among her family’s small Maine businesses, instilling a strong work ethic and a commitment to fostering local growth.
Outside of work, Ariel enjoys spending quality time with her family, exploring Maine’s scenic landscapes, creating hand-made gifts, and staying ahead of emerging trends.
